General Elections- A curtain raiser

As the general elections 2014 is around the corner, it is time for this blog to go political. In this elections, the  battle grounds are clearly defined and swords drawn. The main battle will be between the BJP and the Congress with two new faces at the helm, two leaders who are testing the waters for the first time in the national level.

While Narendra Modiji comes with a track record that can only be described as the best in Gujarat,
Rahul Gandhi on the other hand does not have a track record to boast off. Clearly this will not be cake walk for the Congress as it battles anti incumbency factor coupled with rising corruption, high inflation, a weak economy and a directionless leadership. The BJP has a clear upper hand, fresh as they are with land slide victory in the just concluded assembly elections.

The message that the BJP is putting up is of a strong country with a robust economy, strong defense and foreign policy. That particularly attracts the youth as they are fed up with corruption and misrule of the last so many years. The third force that has emerged in the arena is the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). AAP is nothing but the manifestation of the people's anger and their changing aspirations. People are fed up with misgovernment and demand accountability and openness in governance. People will no longer accept the Neta who comes begging for votes only to forget those who elected him until after five years when the time for next elections again come. Times have changed and AAP had emerged as the fulfillment of that aspiration. That was the only reason for the remarkable growth of the AAP in such a short span. People like me really believed that there will be a great change. But all the aspirations were in vain as AAP has fast emerged into a band of anarchists who have exhibited nothing but an open contempt for the established norms. They have managed to land themselves from one trouble to another. They are fast losing their relevancy and only time will tell what impact if anything will they be able too make in the next elections.

That brings us to the so called third front, a loose configuration of small and regional parties who come together only to get some relevancy. These parties has nothing in common to each other except perhaps to get some leverage and bargaining power post elections. This year it is no exception . But like any other year, they will fail to garner any support and will again go to irrelevance.

India wants stability and that is what we Indians aspire for and demand from our leaders. We do not want corruption but to live in a just and law abiding society and see our great country become the most powerful in the world. We aspire for such a leader and it is the need to the time.

Devaluation and Despair: Breaking Down China's Currency Dilemma ( Source- The National Interest / Author- Gordon C. Chang)

Source- Wikimedia Commons / Author- JesseW900 Source- The National Interest Author- Gordon G. Chang On Friday, the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), the Chinese central bank, reversed course and set the renminbi on an upward path. That followed three straight days of devaluation that shook global stock, currency, and commodity markets, sending them downward. Friday’s reversal looks responsible. Nonetheless, the PBOC’s actions last week show policy disarray in the Chinese capital. The net result is that Beijing rattled the world, ruined its reputation for stable management, and did almost nothing to help China’s faltering economy. The daily devaluations follow months of government statements that the central bank would keep the currency stable. Every trading morning, 15 minutes before the 9:30 opening bell, central bank officials announce the day’s reference rate against the U.S. dollar. The renminbi, informally known as the yuan, is then allowed to rise or fall 2...
